All insights

Trauma is an emotional response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms a person's ability to cope. It can arise from accidents, violence, loss, medical events, or prolonged stress — and its effects can linger long after the event itself.

Common signs to notice

Trauma shows up differently for everyone, but some experiences are common:

  • Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or troubling dreams
  • Feeling on guard, easily startled, or unable to relax
  • Avoiding people, places, or conversations that are reminders
  • Difficulty concentrating, sleeping, or regulating emotions
  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or persistently down

Noticing these patterns is not a sign of weakness. It is your mind and body doing their best to protect you after something hard.

Support that fits you

Effective, evidence-based approaches exist. Terri is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and offers EMDR-informed care when it is a good fit for your goals. Together, you decide the pace and the plan.

Taking the next step

Reaching out is often the hardest part. You do not need to have the right words or a full story ready — a simple message is enough. When you are ready, request a consultation and we will find a time that works.

Ready when you are

If anything here resonated, reaching out is a simple first step. There is no pressure — just a conversation.
